Indoor lighting design must take into account the changes in natural lighting within 24 hours a day and throughout the year.
During the day, when natural lighting is no longer suitable for people to work or cannot be safely passed, artificial lighting must be considered to replace natural light. The decision on when to use artificial lighting depends not only on the illumination level of outdoor natural light, but also on whether there is a sufficient limit of natural light penetrating into the room. In order to ensure that users can get satisfactory lighting all year round, lighting design should pay attention to the following three aspects:
(1) The design of the window must provide the highest possible level of natural light and be coordinated with other design parameters, such as the increase or decrease of solar heat, glare from the sky, and noise penetration.
(2) During the day, supplementary lighting is used for natural lighting in the indoor part far from the window.
(3) Artificial light sources are used for lighting at night.
