This linear light source is rated at 750 watts, 1600 watts, and up to 10 kw. It allows for compact lamp designs with good optical control. The metal halide additives used are the same as those for the above-mentioned lamps with outer glass bulbs. As the load on the arc tube increases, the lamp itself actually plays the role of the outer glass bulb, so the price of the lamp without the outer glass bulb is lower, and the replacement cost can also be reduced.
The arc tube is thin and long, and in order to ensure the thermal balance of the arc tube, the lamp tube must be burned horizontally. Since its arc voltage is also increased, a high impedance transformer is used for rectification and to provide sufficient voltage to start the lamp. The structure of this lamp allows the use of high ignition voltage, which should be ideal for hot re-ignition.
