Special lighting equipment in the library

Recording Library The rental of LP recordings from libraries is a rapidly growing business, usually for adults. This business creates two visual problems: one is to identify the recording number on the sleeve, and the other is to check the recording for damage when borrowing and returning. Recordings are also mounted on the same racks as books and require similar lighting treatment as bookshelves. The visual inspection of recordings is difficult, mainly because the black surface needs to be inspected and very fine scratches must be found, so it is best to use a special light source as an inspection tool, sometimes supplemented by some optical device, such as a magnifying glass.

Microfilm The microfilm collection system is a method of collecting books and reference documents by photography for the purpose of preservation and lending, mainly because these books or documents are too valuable or in such bad condition that they are not suitable for general borrowing. Microfilm readers should be placed in special rooms with dim light to facilitate reading of projected images. Special attention should be paid to the selection and location of lamps to ensure that there are no reflections from other light sources on the screen.

Mobile libraries In rural areas with low population density, there is no need to establish permanent libraries. Local authorities can organize mobile library service stations by using cars to tow special reading vehicles. The lighting problems of such libraries are similar to those of permanent libraries, but the only power source of such mobile libraries is batteries, and the lighting load must be reduced to a minimum. The use of fluorescent tubes through transistor inverters is the only practical method, but the level of illumination is determined by the capacity of the battery, not by strict lighting requirements.

Special exhibitions Special exhibitions are often held in libraries. The overall effect of such exhibitions depends mainly on the visual impression. The best way is to use a lighting track device in the exhibition area and use multiple spotlights. This will ensure that library staff who are not skilled in electrical technology can be safely guaranteed when arranging special lighting.
