Decorative lighting in parks and gardens and floodlighting of buildings

Decorative lighting in parks and gardens is as difficult to define as floodlighting in buildings. The following general principles can produce better results:

(1) It is not necessary to floodlight every area. Select the main features. If possible, prepare a tour route for tourists and use lights to show various scenes in an orderly manner.

(2) The direction and color of the lights should be chosen based on the premise that they can enhance the beauty of trees and shrubs. Conifers only reflect well in strong light and are generally only suitable for shadow treatment. In addition, beech, copper beech, birch, willow and oak also have good reflection effects for floodlighting.

(3) Direct light on a still water surface has no effect, but it can be used to reflect the bridge, trees or buildings illuminated by floodlights on the water's edge. Waterfalls and fountains can be treated beautifully, but the light must be reflected through the water to look good. Therefore, whether around the fountain or where the waterfall flows into the pond, the lights should be placed below the horizontal plane. Some large waterfalls have good effects with front lighting, but if the floodlight is set at a distance and shines directly on the small waterfall, the effect is not ideal. Although submersible lamps are good, they require special design.

(4) For the main pedestrian roads, it is better to use low-power street lights installed on 4-5 meter high lamp posts. And street lamp posts can be equipped with 150-watt sealed beam Reflectors to illuminate flower beds and small shrubs. If such lamps are installed on the ground inside flower beds and small shrubs, good results can also be achieved.

(5) Whether it is day or night, floodlight equipment must be hidden from sight. It is generally not elegant to tie lamps to branches or tree trunks.

(6) Colored decorative lights can create a festive atmosphere, especially when reflected in the water. However, this kind of decorative lighting is not easy to achieve a calm atmosphere, nor is it easy to show the magnificence of nature. It can only be used in a limited manner.
