Sports lighting requires specific analysis of the visual requirements for each sport. For example, in archery, the most stringent requirement is to see the target clearly, but for safety, there must also be general soft lighting between the shooting point and the target. In large stadiums, the distance between the audience and the athletes is large, so higher illumination is required. Tennis and bowling do not have many spectators, because tennis is fast and requires higher illumination. If discharge lamps are used, the lighting equipment must be three-phase balanced, otherwise it will produce a distracting stroboscopic effect.
Floodlighting of training or practice venues Practice venues for football and rugby, as well as various all-season sports venues, usually require a horizontal illumination of 30 lux to 50 lux. Night training can use a single-sided light with an installation height of 4 to 5 meters and an illumination value of only 5 lux on a limited venue area.
Floodlighting of sports competition venues For high-standard sports competitions, the horizontal illumination needs to be at least 100 lux. If floodlights are installed on the sidelines, fan-shaped beam lamps and halogen tungsten lamps or discharge bulbs (tubes) are the most suitable, and the installation height must be above 6 meters. If there are sports venues with stands, the illumination should be increased to 500 lux, but strict glare control is required in the audience area, so the recommended installation height must be 10 meters.
